You are exempt as per MCA 50-50-102 Subsection (21)(c)(x). What this says is: “the term “retail food establishment” does not include private, religious, fraternal, youth, patriotic, or civic organizations that serve or sell food to the public over no more than 4 days in a 12 month period.” This is what your event falls under. Even though you are exempt from any regulatory oversight, I would strongly suggest you avoid certain items being brought to your event. These items include: desserts with a custard filling, or any dessert requiring refrigeration, wild game products that were processed in a home rather than in a meat processing facility, and home canned products such as fruits and vegetables. Additionally, I would recommend that you have a hand sink available for people and/or food servers to wash their hands that is not in a restroom. There are a lot of bacteria and viruses that can still be found in a restroom after you have washed your hands that are then brought out of the restroom and introduced onto or into the food and utensils.
