Questions for wholesalers
-
As an owner of a retail Grocery Store, what are the most important questions to ask a wholesaler before purchasing their product?”
Answer: You should first establish if the wholesaler is licensed. If selling produce, they will have a produce license. If these are raw agricultural commodities you should ask if they have GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification. If it is a grower, you should ask them at the very least what is their water supply (has it been tested), the pesticides that are used, and their employee health policies—these questions are to ensure that the produce is not contaminated by microbes from the employees or water and toxic chemicals are not present. You are allowed to require them to have a GAP plan or a farm food safety plan. A guide to local purchasing is attached. This contains questions for produce purchases. Please let us know if you have further questions.
